Always willing to have a kick-about for a good cause, Cooper Software was one of 9 companies within the Technology & IT sector that took part in the Business Fives summer heats, held at Powerleague Sighthill, Edinburgh last Thursday, 17th August.
As part of their on-going commitment to Corporate Social Responsibility, The Business Fives provided Cooper Software with an excellent opportunity to raise money for charity as well as the chance to enjoy some time with colleagues away from the office. Business Fives set a target of £10,000 for the summer season and between the firms competing in the Technology & IT heat, over £2,137 was raised for a variety of charities across the country, including Cooper Software’s chosen charity, The Homeless World Cup Foundation. Previously, Business Fives selected a sole charity partner, however this year, firms were able to elect their own chosen charity with the destination of the final donation being decided by the overall champions.
The tournament initially saw 3 groups playing to qualify for the Champions League, Europa League and Intertoto Cup group stages. Cooper Software booked their place in the Champions League group stage along with Dacoll and Pulsant and in a series of tightly-contested games which saw the sides separated by goal difference, they eventually finished top of the group, helped by an impressive 7-0 over Pulsant. In the final, a stunning performance from man-of the-match Patrick Kelly drove Cooper Software to victory over Dacoll, reversing an earlier, 3-2 result to win 2-1.
Cooper Software will now go on to play in the final which will be held at the same venue in Edinburgh in September and hope to add to their fundraising total for the Homeless World Cup Foundation. With 4 more industry sector qualifiers to go across Glasgow and Edinburgh, the tournament now aims to double its original £10,000 target for charitable causes throughout Scotland.
Celebrating their victory, Frank Cooper, part of the Cooper Software Team said, “We take pride in our Corporate Social Responsibility activities and The Business Fives is a great way to raise money for our chosen charity, The Homeless World Cup Foundation, whilst enjoying some fun and a unique networking opportunity. There was a great spirit amongst all the teams involved and we all thoroughly enjoyed the day. I just hope we can replicate our excellent form at the national finals in September!”
