Historic whisky business looks to the future with Cooper Software

Family-owned single malt whisky specialist Gordon & MacPhail has appointed Cooper Software to implement new business systems as part of a significant investment in its future growth.

Starting in early 2020, the Fife-based enterprise software specialists will work to replace an array of legacy systems with one unified enterprise resource planning platform – IFS Applications 10. With a scheduled handover and go-live date in early 2021, this swift implementation project will ensure a quick return on Gordon & MacPhail’s investment – reducing costs, boosting efficiency and, ultimately, better serving their customers’ needs. By streamlining processes linking sales demand to production, procurement and stock management processes, the system is projected to deliver significant savings.

Founded in 1895, Gordon & MacPhail is renowned for its premium Scotch whiskies including some of the world’s oldest and rarest. The company has celebrated a string of successes in the past year including the celebration of the 20th anniversary of distilling at Benromach Distillery, the launch of Red Door Gin and significant growth in international sales. The Elgin-based business has also secured planning permission to build a second distillery near Grantown-on-Spey. IFS Applications 10 will offer an essential foundation for the next phase of growth.

Cooper Software have taken a novel collaborative approach to the project, working with Gordon & MacPhail to create a high-level solution design before the software was purchased – providing clarity on costs, expectations and projected savings. As well as tailoring IFS Applications 10, Cooper Software will employ their proprietary TRAX solution for IFS – software that integrates disparate data sources into one unified source of truth.

David Stewart, Head of Finance at Gordon & MacPhail, said: “Working closely with Cooper Software and IFS we will implement a system fit to support the growth ambitions of our business. Utilising their insight and expertise, we look forward to creating a best-in-class solution that will streamline our processes and boost efficiency.”

Frank Cooper, Executive Chairman of Cooper Software, commented: “This is a particularly exciting project for our team, as Gordon & MacPhail is an extremely well-known, marquee company both in the industry and in Scotland. We’re excited to demonstrate what IFS can do with our own last-mile functionality, and we look forward to playing our part in supporting a real Scottish success story.”
